Okay, I have decided to bless you with ruining more of your favourite movies. I always see and hear things that you’re not supposed to in movies, from things in the background to motives that aren’t probably intended but definitely implied.
The National Lampoon’s Vacation movies, they are the some of the best and funniest movies to be broadcast on TV. Almost every time that the movies are broadcast we turn them on and laugh our butts off.
However, the underlying theme of almost all of the movies is that Clark (Chevy Chase) is unhappy with his life, and apparently in his marriage too.
In the original movie, he’s infatuated with Christy Brinkley, even goes skinny dipping with her. Vegas Vacation he runs into her again driving a Ferrari with kids in the back. Christmas Vacation Clark is fantasizing about his pool and a gorgeous brunette that eventually will be skinny dipping in the pool, until he’s distracted by his young niece.
He is obviously unhappy with his marriage. Even in European Vacation, while he doesn’t fixate on another woman, he films a porno scene with his wife that get’s stolen and produced all over Europe.
Vegas Vacation has issues with Ellen (Beverly d’Angelo) having a fixation on Wayne Newton, she even goes to his place and has lunch with him (“I made pasta!”). They obviously have some serious issues with their marriage. He’s constantly fantasizing about other women, she’s off having dinner with an octogenarian.
The movies are fun but with an underlying tone of unhappiness and potential unfaithfulness.
I hope you enjoy these movies from now on.
I have never cared for Chevy Chase Christmas movies. They leave me wondering about who would write such scripts. Personally I would not watch them myself, but my son rather enjoys them. So he will go on enjoying those movies. There you have it then, one like and one don’t like.
I really enjoy the Vacation movies, I find them light and fun. I always laugh at the rant that Chevy Chase’s character has every movie.
