Several months ago, I started a journey into the Gamma Quadrant. I started binging Star Trek Deep Space Nine on Netflix. One hundred and seventy three episodes later, and I am disappointed.
I know I shouldn’t be disappointed but I am. I think that i am an anomaly. When I am reading a book or watching a movie, I want there to be more after the climax. I want to see the protagonists and their friends get back to a normal life. I want more than what they usually give. In the instance of DS9, they devoted less than half an hour of follow up to a story that was one hundred and seventy two hours in the making.
I was disappointed by the eventual splitting up of most of the crew for them to go on their own ways. I felt like there should have been months of work to get the station and life back to normal before everyone was packed up and sent out.
I believe I am up to date on all the Star Trek movies and TV shows. While I haven’t binged the Original series, or TNG, I believe that I have seen them all when they were current or on reruns. My wife has asked why I haven’t gone through and binged at least TNG and to be honest, I just don’t want to have to deal with Denise Crosby’s character Tasha Yar. I really didn’t like the character since day one, nor do I want to deal with Q and the Q continuum – I always felt that the Q story lines were a cop out. I feel that the writers didn’t have anything good so they just went with a Q story.
I have watched: Enterprise, Discovery, Voyager, DS9, and am up to date on Picard. I am not certain what else there is to watch in the ST canon but if it’s out there, besides TNG, I will find it and binge watch it.
It sure seems that looking back at my previous writings, I am disappointed in a lot of shows and movies. One I am not disappointed in is the Witcher. It’s awesome, I think that it’s true to the original books and has a lot of potential for the next season.
I have also just finished the second season of Altered Carbon and thought that it was a good story, and the season ended well. I look forward to season 3 of that when it comes out.
These is just a few that I have watched recently. I will find my next binge worthy program soon and when I do, I hope to regale you with my thoughts. Let’s hope it’s not a pineapple.
